Chisinau's Holy Gates, constructed in 1841, and the city's own Arc de Triomphe are two of the city's most visited landmarks. You'll learn about Prince Stefan while you take a leisurely stroll around a city park; he's a noble representation of Moldova's medieval past.

Cricova Winery, located 50-80 meters underground, is the next stop on the tour and is akin to visiting an actual underground city. You'd have to drive past Vladimir Putin's massive wine vaults in Moldova to get to his collection.

In addition, the private collection of Herman Goering, which the Red Army captured from Berlin in 1945, is included. Cricova is the originator of producing high-quality top wines and is often referred to as the "pearl" of Moldovan winemaking.

Iasi: 2-Day Chisinau and Transnistria Tour

Day 1:

The first order of business on your first day in Iasi is to meet your tour guide at the hotel's front desk. You'll next begin your journey to the Republic of Moldova, a country known for its wines and the lowest visitor density in Europe.

Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, is today's featured destination. Also called "City on Seven Hills" and "City of White Stone." And Chisinau doesn't stop there, with its substantial socialist architecture that merges seamlessly with modern structures and monuments.

The tour will take you to some of the city's most notable landmarks, including the City Hall, created by the renowned Russian architect Alexander Bernadazzi, and the Parliament and Presidential House.

You will then proceed to Cricova Winery. It's an actual underground city between 50 and 80 meters below ground. It would take more than 120 kilometers to drive through all of Vladimir Putin's wine cellars in Moldavia.

Day 2:

Early the following day, you'll embark on a two-hour journey to the breakaway republic of Moldova that emerged from the Soviet Union's collapse.

No one acknowledges the existence of this sovereign nation even though it has established borders, a president, its currency, an emblem, and a flag. The area between the Dniester River and Ukraine is known as Transnistria.

Russian peacekeeping troops have been stationed in Transnistria since the Cold War and are visible from the border post. Russia's continued presence and commitment to regional stability nearly 30 years after the Cold War's end is notable.

You'll then go to Transnistria, a region home to over 200,000 people and features two major cities: Bendery and Tiraspol.

2-Day Tour of Moldova from Iasi

Your first day of sightseeing begins bright and early with a transfer to Kishinev for an orientation of the city and its sights. But first, you'll stop at two of the most revered monasteries in Moldova: Hâncu and Căpriana.

The city tour will conclude with your guide escort you to the hotel for check-in and lunch. Next, you'll see Cricova, an underground city devoted to winemaking, and try some of the local vintages.
